Personal project. BotPod is an introductory robot building experience for children 5 to 10. Recognizing the success of Lego Mindstorms and Dean Kamen's annual FIRST Robotics Competition, BotPod allows younger children to experiment endlessly with configurations of arms, joints, wheels, drills, claws, clamps, and cranes all powered by the central Pod and connected with rotary cables. Each action component is turned on or off by clutch buttons located on the top of the Pod. Batteries provide power to the Pod, or alternately it could be developed as a wind-up. BotPod introduces concepts the child will later develope with fully robotic toys.
